Listen: Works by Women

Emory Schwartz Center for Performing Arts

Performance Date

Tuesday, March 17, 2020 8:00 PM

This is a FREE Around the A performance presented by The Merian Ensemble, composed of ASO musicians Elisabeth Remy Johnson, Christina Smith, Emily Brebach, Marci Gurnow, and Jessica Oudin.

Through their annual chamber series "Listen: Works by Women," The Merian Ensemble is dedicated to performing the existing repertoire of music by women, as well as commissioning a new work each year. The ensemble cares deeply about sharing this outstanding music, which is too often absent from music programming. In addition to concerts at traditional and non-traditional venues, the group is committed to performing for school-age children and providing free and public presentations at libraries and other public spaces throughout Atlanta.

The "Listen: Works by Women" series is focused in March, National Women's History Month. Their 2020 repertoire spotlights "new" and first-generation Americans in a program entitled "American Music for Today and Tomorrow." The program features works by Polina Nazaykinskaya, Reena Esmail and Mary Kouyoumdjian, as well as their first commission written by Brazilian-American composer Clarice Assad.
