One of the most beguiling works in the choral literature, Carmina burana is a lusty powerhouse based on a set of poems by Medieval monks. Discovered by the composer in a second-hand bookshop, these bawdy poems inspired a raucous and spellbinding hymn to fertility, springtime, and the inevitability of death.

Atlanta Symphony Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles returns to lead Orchestra and Chorus in Carmina burana. Soloists include the alluring Puerto Rican soprano Meechot Marrero, and the “suave and sonorous” [Opera News] baritone Stephen Powell.
