Northern Lights Part 2: The Grieg Piano Concerto

Atlanta Symphony Hall

Performance Dates

Thursday, February 27, 2020 8:00 PM
Saturday, February 29, 2020 8:00 PM

This week, the beguiling Danish maestro Thomas Søndergård leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in a program of Nordic treasures. One of the most recognizable pieces in all classical music, Grieg's Piano Concerto graces movies, comedy routines and video games, alike. It's also an unrepentant thriller, bringing power, melody and poetry together in one dazzling piece. The Orchestra welcomes Norwegian pianist Håvard Gimse. Also on the program, Thomas Søndergård conducts the poignant "Sinfonia Espansiva" by fellow Dane Carl Nielsen.

Thursday evening includes a pre-concert chamber music recital at 6:45 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall. Free for all ticket holders of the Feb. 27 and 29, 2020 concerts.

Saturday Pre-Concert Talk
Join host Ken Meltzer, ASO Program Annotator and Music Consultant, 1 hour before each evening and matinee Delta Classical concert in Symphony Hall (unless otherwise noted) for FREE Pre-Concert Talks by composers, conductors, educators, and musical experts. Pre-Concert Talks are free and open to all concert tickets holders. Speakers and locations are subject to change.
