Chilling, powerful and thought-provoking, the War Requiem stands as one of the modern masterpieces of the English choral tradition. From the ashes of a bombed-out cathedral comes this bold and poetic hymn to the fallen. Written for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral in 1962, Benjamin Britten's War Requiem weaves verses from the Latin Mass for the Dead together with World War I battlefield poems by Wilfred Owen, a British commander killed in action a week before war's end.
