Contest
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is inviting individual singers, age 18 and older, to compete in the “Atlanta Symphony Songster 2010” vocal competition, offering amateur singers a chance to sing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park on Saturday, August 14, 2010. The concert will feature the Orchestra performing the music to the classic film, The Wizard of Oz — a theme carried into the vocal competition.
Contestants will need to submit a two-minute video of themselves singing “Over the Rainbow,” the famous song performed by Judy Garland in the classic film, The Wizard of Oz, by midnight (EST) on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. A panel of judges will narrow the entrants down to three finalists, who will be announced on Wednesday, August 4, 2010. The three finalists will then sing a portion of “Over the Rainbow” with the Orchestra prior to the start of the concert on Saturday, August 14, 2010, which will also be streamed live on UStream.com. In the spirit of American Idol, audience members will select the winner by text message or by online voting. Winners will be announced at intermission of the concert by Turner Classic Movies’ own Ben Mankiewicz.

Video Submission Deadline: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 — midnight (EST)
Deadline for submitting a video-audition and application. Entrants must be 18 years or older, and will be judged solely on the merit of their performance.
Finalists Announced: Wednesday, August 4, 2010
Top three finalists will be announced, selected by a panel of judges, will be announced.
Final Live Competition with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra: Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. (EST)
Three finalists will sing a portion of “Over the Rainbow,” from the classic film, The Wizard of Oz, live, onstage, with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at its summer home, Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park. Competition may be watched in person at the Amphitheatre, or online at UStream.com/atlantasymphony. Voting will take place via text message and online voting. Winner will be announced at intermission of the concert by TCM’s own Ben Mankiewicz.
How to Enter/Application
To audition for “Atlanta Symphony Songster 2010,” contestants must post a video response to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s YouTube.com channel with a MAXIMUM two-minute video-performance of the song, “Over the Rainbow.”
In the video submission, please provide an introduction stating Name, City and State of residence, and a MAXIMUM of two minutes of “Over the Rainbow.”
Contestants MUST have a corresponding application form to be considered.

Prizes
First Prize: Two domestic round-trip tickets to New York, one hotel room, and two concert tickets to see the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, October 30, 2010, along with a TCM gift basket containing books, DVDs, and more.
Second Prize: Two complementary tickets to the Opening Night concert and party of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s 2010-11 season, plus a backstage tour of Turner Studios (pending date availability), a visit to the TCM set, and lunch at Studio Canteen for two people.
Third Prize: A voucher for two complementary tickets to a concert in the Orchestra’s 2010-11 season at Atlanta Symphony Hall, and a TCM gift basket containing books, DVDs, and more.
Rules and Regulations
Upload your videotaped performance of “Over the Rainbow” to YouTube, and submit the URL when you complete the applications form (click the "Submit Entry" tab above when you are ready to fill out the form).
- The song should be no longer than 2 minutes.
- Acappella is preferred.
- Must be age 18 or older to submit an entry.
- Limit one entry per person.
- Videotaped performance must have occurred within the last two years.
- Video must be uploaded to youtube.com. (no exceptions!)
- Deadline for submission is Wednesday, July 28, 2010 — Midnight (EST).
- Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will choose finalists.
- Finalists announced Wednesday, August 4, 2010.
- Fan voting begins on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at approximately 8:30 p.m. (EST).
- Winner(s) announced live on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at intermission of Wizard of Oz concert.
- Submitting entry grants Atlanta Symphony Orchestra right to publish entry online and broadcast entry on ustream.com.
- Contestants MUST have a corresponding application form to be considered.
- Employees of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, immediate family and other household members, and current members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, are NOT eligible to enter.
