The TDP prepares students for conservatory, college or university-level study by providing instruction, mentoring, performance opportunities and complimentary admission to ASO concerts. The Azira G. Hill Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to those TDP students attending summer music training programs.  If you would like to contribute to the Azira G. Founded in 1993, the TDP auditions musically advanced African American and Latino students in Grades 4-10 from throughout the metro Atlanta area. Students are recommended to the program either by a private instrument teacher or by a school music teacher and should already be playing at an advanced level at the time of application.

Each applicant must also be a participating member of his/her school instrumental music program if one is available.Competitive auditions are held each September as openings occur.  Applications for this program will be available in the spring of 2008. Click here for more information on audition requirements.

Finalists are selected on the basis of their potential to become professional musicians, and their playing ability must be at or above the high standards of performance required for acceptance into the program. In addition, students must demonstrate a serious commitment to growth and improvement on their chosen instrument. Pending successful biannual performance evaluations, students may remain in the program until graduation from high school.

Each TDP participant receives individual weekly lessons with a designated ASO musician (or a carefully screened private teacher when an ASO musician is unavailable). Their families receive passes to ASO concerts and the students are given the opportunity to participate in assorted master classes, chamber music programs and community outreach events.

Program participants attend some of the country's leading summer music training programs through the auspices of the Azira G. Hill Scholarship Fund. In keeping with the program's goal of preparing students for advanced music study, the TDP is dedicated to encouraging a standard of discipline and responsibility required of serious students of music, as well as developing high standards of musicianship both in performance and practice techniques.

Students participating in the program are expected to demonstrate consistent commitment, exceptional discipline and artistic growth.
