A member of the Atlanta Symphony since 1971, Carl Nitchie has been Principal Bassoonist of the orchestra since 1972. He graduated from the Oberlin College Conservatory in 1971, where he was a student of Kenneth Moore, and attended the Blossom Festival School of the Cleveland Orchestra in 1970 and 1971, where he studied with George Goslee, Principal Bassoonist of the Cleveland Orchestra.
Mr. Nitchie teaches privately and at Emory University, is a coach with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, and has given master classes around the country. His performances locally include solo appearances with the Atlanta Symphony, as well as chamber music performances with many Atlanta organizations. He most recently was a soloist with the ASO in the Mozart Bassoon Concerto in October 2003. His hobbies include genealogy and sailing. His wife, Heidi, is a violist with the Atlanta Symphony.
