Colin Williams
Principal Trombonist
First Union Chair

Principal Trombonist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and holder of its endowed First Union Chair, Colin Williams is in his third season with the ASO. He previously played three years as Principal Trombone with the San Antonio Symphony and performed occasionally in the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Mr. Williams took a strong interest in music in high school, when under the instruction of Douglas Wright. After continuing his studies in New York with David Finlayson at the Manhattan School of Music and Joseph Alessi at the Juilliard School, he was selected to participate in the Music Academy of the West and as a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. He has won several solo competitions, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra youth concerto competition, the Juilliard concerto competition, and the IWBC trombone competition.

This is Mr. Williams's first solo appearance with the ASO. He has appeared as soloist with the Boston Symphony, the Juilliard Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony, and the U.S. Military Academy Band. He spent two summers playing with the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and this past summer he was a guest artist in Japan. Since his arrival in Atlanta, he has performed extensively with the Atlanta Symphony Brass Quintet.
