The demand for the
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to tour has increased dramatically as its reputation for innovative and powerful performances has grown.
The world took notice in 2003 when the ASO made its debut at Chicago’s famed Ravinia Festival with an acclaimed performance of John Adams’ El Niño. Later the same year, the ASO Chorus made its landmark debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker, performing Britten’s War Requiem under Donald Runnicles.
In 2004, the ASO performed at Carnegie Hall, taking the New York music scene by storm. These performances instantly elevated the ASO’s status and resulted in three New York engagements during the 2005-2006 Season: the ASO Chamber Chorus and Donald Runnicles performed the Mozart Requiem with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall, the ASO performed Golijov’s La Pasión según San Marcos at Lincoln Center and the Verdi Requiem at Carnegie Hall.
In the summer of 2006, the ASO returned to the Ravinia Festival and to California’s Ojai Music Festival to perform Golijov’s Ainadamar. Such prestigious engagements underscore Atlanta’s membership among the world’s very best orchestras.
