World Premiere of Awakening from a Disappearing Garden Photo Gallery - 10/15/09

On October 15–16, 2009, Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performed the world premiere of Angel Lam’s Awakening from a Disappearing Garden for Cello and Orchestra, with Yo-Yo Ma as soloist. Also on the program was an ASO Theater of a Concert presentation of Stravinsky’s opera, The Nightingale, directed by James Alexander. The cast featured Celena Shafer (Nightingale), Jessica Rivera (Cook), Vinson Cole (Fisherman), Denis Sedov (Chamberlain), Jason Grant (Bonze), Kostas Smoriginas (Emperor), Irina Tchistyakova (Death), and the ASO Chamber Chorus.

Mr. Spano, the Orchestra, and the ASO Chorus will be performing Awakening from a Disappearing Garden at Carnegie Hall Saturday, November 7, 2009 for the Ancient Paths, Modern Voices: Celebrating Chinese Culture festival exploring the diverse and vibrant culture of China and its influence around the world. The program will also include a concert version of Stravinsky’s The Nightingale.
