In Concert With Community

Music connects communities in ways that bring a new vibrancy and outlook to our city. Music provokes thought, awakens common curiosities, celebrates diversity, and mends wounds that can often isolate us. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is committed to connecting communities to the power of live instrumental music. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, ASO Community Programs ensure access for a broader Atlanta.

Symphony in Your Neighborhood

The ASO’s signature community concert series brings free casual chamber music performances and up-close access to Symphony musicians into more than a dozen Atlanta-area neighborhoods.  The series also includes special events like the new “Midtown Takeover” pop-up performances, and the DeKalb County Public Library concerts.  Find an upcoming concert in your area and come get to know us better.

Community Ticketing Program

The magic of live instrumental music is often beyond the reach of many members of the community. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is proud to partner with dozens of Atlanta nonprofit organizations to provide access to over 2000 individuals who otherwise could never attend a concert. As part of the program, the “Music for the Military” initiative continues to provide free admissions to military families through partnerships with organizations like the USO, the Atlanta VA Medical Center, and United Military Care, and Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

Musicians in Communities

The Musicians in Communities program brings ASO members out of the concert hall and into our libraries, workplaces, local communities, and to our outlying neighbors.  The Orchestra partners with local organizations and non-profits who wish to leverage the talents of ASO musicians in service to the community while engaging citizens in a more up-close and personal way.

Artist in Residence

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Artist-in-Residence is an official community advocate of the ASO. The residency engages new audiences while featuring Atlanta’s world-class talent through concerts, recitals, master classes and other education and community engagement events throughout the season. Tenor Russell Thomas, the 2014-2015 Artist-in- Residence, is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting vocal and dramatic talents on the international opera and concert scene.

Volunteer for Music

Become an ambassador to the ASO as a community docent and share your passion at one of our community concerts or events.
