In Concert With Community

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is committed to removing barriers that stand between citizens and the power of live instrumental music. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, Community Programs ensures access for a broader community.

Musicians in Communities

The Musicians in Communities program makes Atlanta Symphony musicians available to local non-profits who wish to utilize their talents in service to the community. Musicians make themselves available in small ensembles to engage citizens in a more up-close and personal way. Symphony musicians have performed in retirement homes, community centers, libraries, soup kitchens, and many other community locations, serving over 11,000.

Engaging a Broader Atlanta

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra embraces diversity and partners with organizations like the Latin American Association, Atlanta Neighborhood Planning Units, and DeKalb County Public Libraries to better engage Atlanta’s ever-evolving cultural landscape. Through community concerts and participation in festivals and heritage celebrations, the Orchestra is constantly working to connect with a broader Atlanta and serve as a meaningful resource for the many different citizens who make up our community.

New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music

The Orchestra concluded its third year partnering with the Georgia Humanities Council and the Smithsonian in New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music. This travelling museum exhibit exploring American musical traditions will visited 12 rural Georgia communities throughout the partnership, bringing with it community and education programs of the Atlanta Symphony. The project concluded with a showing of the exhibition at the Woodruff Arts Center, accompanied by the Georgia Roots Music Festival, a showcase of our state’s many local roots music performers. Check back for info on more rural engagement to come.

Community Ticketing Program

The magic of live instrumental music is often beyond the reach of many members of the community. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is proud to partner with dozens of Atlanta nonprofit organizations to provide access to nearly 2000 individuals who otherwise could never attend a concert. As part of the program, the Music for the Military initiative will continue to provide hundreds of free admissions to military families through partnerships with organizations like the USO, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and United Military Cares.
