This is the first concert in our Modern Masters series, focusing on pieces created in the last century. This program has a decidedly American twist, with three composers who have each in their own way redefined classical music: Gershwin made serious music that was commercially successful; Adams has written some of the most impactful music of our time; and Copland reigns as the grand statesman of American classical music.

Orchestra Insider and Program Annotator Ken Meltzer will present a free pre-concert lecture at 7 p.m. on stage at Symphony Hall. The lecture will feature recordings of both George Gershwin and Aaron Copland interpreting some of their music. Open to all weekend ticket holders.
