Betty Cantrell, Miss America 2016

Betty Cantrell

This past year, thousands of young women vied for the coveted title of Miss America 2016 and the $50,000 scholarship award. On Sunday, September 13th, Betty Cantrell, from Warner Robins, Georgia, became the first Miss Georgia since 1953 to take home the crown.

As Miss America 2016, Betty will embark on a year of service that will take her on a national tour to educate audiences on her platform – Healthy Children, Strong America – encouraging children to make healthy choices and to stay physically active. She will also continue to entertain the nation with her remarkable vocal performances, as well as serve as the National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Betty is currently a junior at Mercer University, where she studies musical performance. She grew up on a 700-acre farm in Warner Robins, Georgia, and aspires to one day perform on Broadway.

The Miss America Organization is the nation’s leading advocate for women's education and the largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women in America – helping them reach their goals and fulfill their dreams by increasing their confidence, developing their skills, and honoring their dedication to serving others.
