Yvonne Powers Peterson


Associate Principal Oboe Yvonne Powers Peterson joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) in 1992.

Ms. Peterson was formerly a faculty member at the University of Evansville, Calvin College, Georgia State, and Emory University. She also served as an Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra coach for 12 years and taught oboe privately for more than 20 years. She retired from teaching to raise a stepson and a daughter, and resides in Ansley Park.

Ms. Peterson was born in Chicago. She studied with Robert Mayer of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Adrian Gnam and Jonanthan Dlouhy at Ohio University, and earned her master's degree in music performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with John Mack.

She has previously served as the Principal Oboe of the Grand Rapids Symphony, Orquesta Sinfonica de Veracruz in Mexico, and Cabrillo Music Festival. Ms. Peterson relocated to Atlanta to fulfill a lifelong dream of joining a major symphony orchestra.
