Michael Kurth has been a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) bass section since 1994.
Mr. Kurth spends much of his free time composing. His piece May Cause Dizziness was premiered by the ASO in March 2011 in celebration of Music Director Robert Spano's tenth anniversary with the Orchestra. His second ASO commission, Everything Lasts Forever, was premiered in April 2013. He has written two commissioned works for the Atlanta Chamber Players, and five for the Riverside Chamber Players of Roswell, for whom he serves as Composer-in-Residence. In April 2013 the Riverside Chamber Players released a CD of Mr. Kurth's string quartets, which is available on iTunes and Amazon. More of his music can be heard on Facebook at "Michael Kurth, Composer."
Mr. Kurth began playing bass at age eight and went on to study with Harold Robinson at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, where he received his bachelor's degree with honors in 1993. Before joining the ASO, he was a member of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach.
